Once Upon a Time... ...there was a hamlet halfway between Méribel and Courchevel, called La Tagna. It meant “the bears’ dwelling” in local dialect, a reference to the bears that lived in the Tarentaise forest until the start of the 20th century. They then disappeared, no doubt hunted down by the inhabitants through fear.
At the end of the 1980’s, the La Perrière Council decided to create a ski resort near the hamlet. Jacques Labro, an architect of renowned talent (Silver medalist in 1968 for the resort of Avoriaz) worked hard to preserve this magical location by designing perfectly integrated wooden constructions.
On the 22nd December 1990, a new resort was opened, soon to be baptised La Tania. One year later, for the Winter Olympics in Albertville, La Tania was designated as an olympic village to host journalists and athletes.Today, the youngest resort of the 3 Valleys consists of around 4 000 beds and has managed to retain its modest scale, in the heart of the world’s largest ski area.
